It is one of several, very different styles of accommodation this hidden area of France is now offering. The Ardennes are just three hours’ drive east of Calais and a new high-speed TGV train has opened it to tourists.
The two tree houses at Le Chêne Perché, close to the pretty village of Signy l’Abbaye, hold up to four people — at a push.
For around £40 per night, they’re a never-to-be-forgotten experience — in the morning you hoist your breakfast up almost 100ft from the forest floor in a basket on a rope.(...)
